big story going into the final day of the Derby City Classic, was Efren
Reyes needing to win the event to earn the $20,000 Master of the Table
bonus. That dream was cut short though, as Reyes suffered back to back losses
to Johnny Archer and then Rodolfo Luat and finished tied for third. The final
four players were Archer, Luat, Reyes and Ralf Souquet with Luat
and Reyes both having buy back options for the event. Those options would
be used at the same time as Souquet beat Luat and Archer beat Reyes. The names
were redrawn for the next round with Luat drawing Reyes and Souquet drawing
Archer.
Please read the following story for the IPT qualifier results. Pagaulyan and Miller win IPT qualifier, tour cardsBy Mike Howerton, azbilliards.com
Louisville, KY - The first IPT
Qualifier event is complete with former World Champion Alex Pagulayan and reigning
Derby City Master of the Table Jason Miller on their way to the International
Pool Tour.Pagulayan looked to be the favorite going into
the 45 player event, but he dropped a 10-3 match to Vilmos Foldes early Sunday.
The win over Pagulayan set Foldes up to play Miller for the hot-seat and the
guaranteed IPT tour card.
Miller had already scored wins over Brandon Ashcraft, Tang Hoa and Thomas Engert. The match with Foldes was more of the same as Miller scored the 10-6 win.The loss to Miller sent Foldes to the one loss side, where he would have to face Pagulayan again in another match for a tour card. Unfortunately for Foldes, he came up short again with a 10-2 loss to Pagulayan. The next chance players will have to qualify for the IPT will be January 27-29 at The Pool Room in Marietta, Georgia.
